Rajasthan Royals (RR) let go of stalwart Jos Buttler, as well as star Indian spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin, ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction. Instead, RR chose to retain captain Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal for Rs 18 cr each. RR had a brilliant run in the previous edition of the IPL. The 2008 champions have now announced the list of their retained players for the mega auctions of the upcoming season. Having retained five capped players and one uncapped player, Rajasthan Royals will enter the IPL 2025 mega auction with the lowest purse of any franchise.
Having finished in the Top 5 in each of the last three IPL seasons, the Rajasthan Royals core was one of the best in the tournament. However, Jos Buttler, who was the IPL Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2022, has been surprisingly let go.
Instead, RR have decided to keep West Indian batter Shimron Hetmyer as their only overseas retention.
RR have also dished out a sizeable retention fee of Rs 14 cr each to young Indian players Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel, who’ve been a crucial part of the franchise in recent seasons.
New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult, arguably the IPL’s most impressive powerplay bowler, has not been retained.
The Royals have completely revamped their bowling department, also releasing capped Indian pacers Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Navdeep Saini and Kuldeep Sen. Instead, their only bowling retention comes in the form of Sandeep Sharma.
Yuzvendra Chahal, who has picked up 18 or more wickets in each of the last six IPL seasons, is a surprise non-retention by the Rajasthan Royals.
